Vector Art – Got Pathfinder?
Posted by Julian Stone in Training & Tutorials on December 14th, 2009
The underbase, or flash white plate, is essential to screen print art. I have yet to meet a graphic artist that can produce a quality underbase without any training. This is not something you learn in school. It has to be handed down from artist to artist or printer to artist. Each screen printer is different. Here is a basic pathfider tutorial that is essential for making clean screen print vectors.
Adobe Illustrator’s powerful Pathfinder Tool can change the way shapes interact and make it possible to create many stunning effects.
The Pathfinder Tool is a great tool to familiarize yourself with. It is used for manipulating paths within Adobe Illustrator. I will explain the different options associated with the Pathfinder Tool, namely: Unite, Minus Front, Intersect, Exclude, Divide, Trim, Merge, Crop, Outline, and Minus Back. And to begin, I will show you how to use the Unite option of the Pathfinder Tool with two square shapes. You will see that with both of my shapes selected, I can unite them into one shape using the Unite option.

What’s In Store for Creative Suite 5
Posted by Julian Stone in General Thoughts on December 8th, 2009
According to Adobe Systems, the latest release of Creative Suite Suite will be in stores in April, 2010. I just got my certification for CS4 and that basically was too fast for them to come out with a new version. Tell Adobe to slow down so consumers like you and me and absorb the changes. – Read More

New Dell Printer – 7130 CND
Posted by Julian Stone in General Thoughts on December 7th, 2009
This new printer has performed better than my expectation and the resolution along with the accurate pantone color matching has made this the best investment I’ve made into a color unit. The 1200×1200 dpi is the best Ive seen since the xerox phaser 7 thousand line. The on board rip has true postscript interpretation (which is preferable to emulation) making the thinnest lines from illustrator and type super crisp and clear. The pantone accuracy is also impressive. I have only had this printer a week now but so far this is an amazing machine. The speed is faster than the canon 4080i and duplexer lines up with crop marks perfectly every time.
